Sunshine Makes Me Happy

We took to the park today to enjoy some of the sunny weather that came along on the heels of several days of cloudy, raininess. Symbolic for my life this week, no? A little sunshine goes a long way towards improving my attitude. Although, as the beautiful and talented Kristi tells me, those who live in sunny locals long for cloudy days, so it just goes to show you that no one is ever happy.

We enjoyed ourselves at the park, as usual. Sophie was her usual flirty little self. She quickly made friends with a 2 1/2 year old girl and the two of them spent an hour running around together while her mother and I had a nice talk. I keep reading about snobby or snooty moms at playgrounds, and maybe I have just been lucky, but every one that I have met has been super nice.

After our new friends left, Sophie and I were hanging out next to the big kid swings when a little girl came up to me. She was about four years old, with a blond pony tail, and just as precocious as could be.

Little Blond Cutie (LBC): Did you see a little girl over here?

Me: What does she look like?

LBC: She has skin like mine and she was on that swing over there.

Me: When was she there?

LBC: Just a few minutes ago. She's pretend.

Me: Oh, well...wait, she's pretend?

LBC: Yes.

Me: (blink, blink)

Me: I'm sorry, I didn't see her.

LBC: (looks around perturbed and runs off)

Maybe I should have said I had seen her.

PS - Thanks for all of your kind comments yesterday. I had publishing remorse as soon as I hit the button. Sharing makes me feel kind of oogy. A little good, but also a little weird. I don't really like to open up that depressing can of worms, but some days it's all that will come out. It's comforting to know that I'm not alone.

Have a great weekend!

  1. How much do you wanna bet it was a friend of a ghostly variety? Whoooo. Serious! Why else would a little one call it 'pretend'? The thing probably follows her everywhere and her MOM calls it 'pretend'. Whhoooo . lol.

I would of said no too. I mean, IF I didn't see it! :)

btw, yes, new do in my pic.

And yesterdays post? Still beautifully written. Don't have remorse, it was a great post!

  2. It does lift your spirit SO much with the weather changing, doesn't it! I am loving the beautiful weather we are having:)

Hope you are sleeping and feeling better and have a Great weekend!

And Please don't stop writing posts like the last one. That is what keeps us REAL! Think how superficial we would seem, and how lost we would all feel if all we ever put up were perfect posts?? But I know how it is putting it out there...I felt the same way when I did it.

  3. Glad you got a little sunshine in your life! I was thinking of you last night, hoping you were sleeping well! =)

  4. That made me laugh out loud. I like that you stuck to your story. I think the kid expected you to make something up, so that you didn't was a twist for her. Funny. Funny.

    Don't feel oogy.

  5. Next time: not only did you see her, she served you deeelicious peppermint tea with a side of crumpets! (The crumpets to stump her) ;)

    Glad for your sunny days!

  6. The sun does help the spirit! It even affects the kids. Glad you are getting some sun and some adult conversation!

And I see imaginary people all the time ....don't you?

  7. I thought yesterday's post was well said. It summarized my day today, actually. Despite sunshine.

Mama told me there'd be days like this ... sigh.

  8. You should have said, "Oh her? I ate her! She was delicious!"

  9. LOL! I probably would have said no to seeing the "friend", too!

  10. I know what you mean about the snobby moms. After reading the book Mommyland: Entering the Insanity of Motherhood and learning about all the "types" of moms the author encountered, you'd think no one out there is a normal, nice, genuine person! But just about every mom I know is.

  11. Ah yes. I've had a recent episode much like this with my daughter. I also said I saw nothing and pissed her off.

I tell her that now she understands how frustrating it is when I ask her, "do you see the mess you made!?" and she says, no.

  12. I'm the type who tries to play along with imaginary friends, but often as not, I say the wrong thing to/about the friend . . . so, you can't win.

    Have a sunshine weekend!

  13. That is so sweet that your daughter found a little friend to play with. (not counting the imaginary one !)

  14. Hey honey, we have ALL had days like your other one. I've even had weeks of them. They SUCK. There's no other way to put it. It does help to know that it's temporary, but only a little bit...

Glad you had a bunch of sunshine. It DOES help, doesn't it?

  15. I've met some of my closest mom friends at the park.
As far as I can discern they are all real.

  16. Oh the sun makes me very happy too!
Literally - I feel so much better when the sun is out - it has been raining for 3 days now!

Give me some sugar, baby!
